Quiet the Mind Through Meditation to Gain Inner Stability
When I see a student fidgeting I know that her mind is not still. If you are a teacher take notice of children writing exams. You may see knees and legs shaking, tapping of pencils or pens, excessive scratching, messaging their temples, and then every now and again an exhaustive breath because in their stress they have forgotten to breathe.
From this preparedness watch the manifestation of better grades and controlled behaviours in your students.
Affirmation:
Beyond Positive Thinking
An affirmation is a conscious statement of a desirable intention, deliberately meditated on and repeated in order to embed it in the mind. This accompanied with mental visualization of a desired outcome is very powerful in making dreams a reality.
Going back to the White Sash of Success Part 1, you begin to see how powerful the Student Creed is at Beyond Kung Fu...and why we start there.
Affirmations should always be phrased in the first person and in the present tense ("I Am") rather than a future tense ("I will"). Why? Because tomorrow is an illusion. You cannot have something tomorrow. By saying “I will” you are always pushing that goal or dream away from you. By saying “I am” or “I have” you are pulling that goal toward you.
Affirmations are a powerful means of reprogramming our subjective minds to usher us safely into our creative visions. They work the best through a quiet and restful state of mind like in a meditation. Contemplation, calmness, and recitation of specific goals of health, wealth, and wisdom are keys to bringing about positive change in your life, community, and the world.
There are a couple of things you must know about affirmation and meditation. First is that they are a practice, like the martial arts. In fact the grandfather art of the modern-day martial arts, shaolin kung fu, was developed as a moving meditation to help monks become healthier so they could sit for longer periods of time in quiet contemplation.
It is not easy to meditate, especially these days with distractions abound. You will not be great at them right away, and don't expect to be. You will likely feel some resistance at first. You will have to show discipline to continue with the practice. When you feel like it is not working and nothing is happening that is when it is working the most. Continue with the practice.
While meditating you may feel like you are doing it wrong. Keep doing it anyway. Most people do not experience enlightenment experiences while meditating. This is because most people aren’t willing to sit on top of a mountain for 7 years following their breath.
Here’s the thing that many people do not recognize: When you meditate you align yourself with an energy that will bring flow experiences into your life. By practicing, even for short periods daily, you set into motion a series of events that will bring wonderful things to you, mysteriously at times.
The problem for our left-brained, instant gratification culture is that we want to understand why, why, why, why, why and I we want to know NOW! When good things come into our lives we want to dissect them down to scientific cause and effect. We certainly don’t attribute success to sitting alone in a quiet room following our breathing. Our logical minds cannot fathom how doing nothing creates something.
The source of creativity, balance, and harmony is between your thoughts. The key is to do the practice, let go into the moment, and open up for wonderful things in your life (Brown Sash Principle). When great things appear, don’t question them; show gratitude, take appropriate action, and continue to meditate daily. Action is key.
There’s popular movement in the world today about thinking positively. It is inferred that all you have to do is have positive thoughts and amazing things will manifest in your life. This is an interesting concept that has some merit. This concept, however, is not new and it is not a secret. In fact the most popular personal development book of all time, Think and Grow Rich, has been around since the nineteen forties which, in part, bestows the same information.
Here’s the missing link with some of the newer interpretations of this idea.
They imply that THOUGHTS fused with FEELING will automatically bring RESULTS. So…
Thoughts + Feelings = Results
The most important step is missing: ACTION!
Action is the missing link: Thoughts + Feelings + Actions = Results.
Action is a Blue Sash principle. We will be talking about that in more depth later. Suffice to say here that it can be easy to be seduced into believing that your dominant thoughts will automatically appear in your life without lifting a finger. This simply is not true.
The meditations and affirmations presented in this series are very powerful and will help you to develop an awareness that will bring more joyful and peaceful experiences to your life. Do them with great expectation, be patient, and take appropriate action.
For now realize that White is inaction; Blue is action. To be successful you must understand both with proper form and timing (Yellow). This will make more sense as we move on. Trust now. 80% of success is showing up.
Visualization Adds Power to Your Affirmations
Many people say I can’t visualize! All I see is blackness. Again visualization is a practice. Create a vision board that you can see everyday with the things you would like to appear in your life.
And do this practice:
Close your eyes and picture in your mind your bedroom, the kitchen, your favourite store, your place of work. Just pick one room or object. Visualize the colour of the walls, the furniture, and decorations. Keep this up until you have a clear vision of the whole room. Open your eyes go to this place and notice what you missed. It’s amazing the objects in plain sight that we miss all the time. If you were hoping for opportunity to knock you realize that it never knocks. It just lies there waiting, all around each and every one of us; we must take some sort of action to pick it up!
Once you have one room mastered in your mind, move on to another. Like any muscle in the body it needs to be worked in order to become stronger. When your power of visual recall is stronger you can then move to visual create and watch your life open up.
